"This is a picture taken in January of the rink in the Cockriell's yard. When Dad got this picture
and decided to add it to our 'Family Album', it reminded him of his favourite story that he read to
his classroom students for over 30 years, The Hockey Sweater. Roch Carrier's short story has been
celebrated in Canada since its publication in 1979, so-much-so that the first two sentences of the author's
true-life experience were scribed on the back of the $5.00 bill from 2001-2013. Dad's appreciation of the
timeless moral dilemmas depicted in the story are enhanced by, in his words, "the best dedication ever".

"I wish to dedicate this story to all girls and boys because all of them are champions."
~ Roch Carrier ~

"The winters of my childhood were long, long seasons. We lived in three places - the
school, the church and the skating rink - but our real life was on the skating rink."
