"This is a picture taken in January of the rink in our yard. When Grandpa Wayne got this picture
and decided to add it to our 'Family Album', it reminded him of the short story that he read to his
students for over 30 years, Roch Carrier's The Hockey Sweater. This story has been read in schools
everywhere in Canada since 1979 and the first two sentences of the author's true-life experience were
printed on the back of our $5.00 bill from 2001-2013...cool, eh? Grandpa liked the way that the author
described a problem that kids may have in life...and he also liked what he called, "the best dedication ever".

"I wish to dedicate this story to all girls and boys because all of them are champions."
~ Roch Carrier ~

"The winters of my childhood were long, long seasons. We lived in three places - the
school, the church and the skating rink - but our real life was on the skating rink."
